Ship Code Changes With an AI Developer That Runs Your Repo

OpenHands

By Open Source Shelf

Overview

A coding agent that actually makes and tests changes in your repository — self-hosted, on your terms.

A self-hosted AI software engineer that reads your repo, writes code, runs commands and tests its own work.

OpenHands is an open-source, autonomous software-development agent: give it a task and it navigates your codebase, edits files, runs shell commands, and verifies its changes by running your tests. You host it yourself and connect the model of your choice. Free and open source — installation required; not a click-and-run browser tool. Built by the OpenHands project and open-sourced; Buy My Agent curates the official link — we do not own or operate it.

Best for: Developers and teams comfortable self-hosting who want an autonomous coding agent.

Not for: Non-technical users wanting an instant no-setup browser tool.

You'll know it worked when: You have OpenHands installed, connected to a model, and it completes a real task in your repo end to end.

Capabilities

  • ✓Link to the official OpenHands GitHub repository
  • ✓Installation + self-hosting instructions and releases
  • ✓Bring-your-own-model configuration

Creator-provided example — not verified performance

Task: In our Next.js repo, add input validation to the /api/signup route and add a test that covers the empty-email case. Run the tests when you are done.
Read app/api/signup/route.ts, added email + password validation with clear 400s, wrote tests/signup.test.ts covering the empty-email and malformed-email cases, and ran the suite — 42 passing. Diff is ready for your review before I commit.

Requirements

You'll need

  • A machine to install and run it on (Docker recommended)
  • A model provider API key or a local model
  • Access to the codebase you want it to work on

Advanced · 1+ hour setup

What you get & your data

Setup: Connect your tools — some setup or creator handoff is required, as described below.

What you get: the creator's public link that opens this agent on GitHub. You use it in your own GitHub account; the creator can replace the link at any time.

Your chats: they happen in your own GitHub account under GitHub's privacy terms — neither the creator nor Buy My Agent can see your conversations.

Creator data access: The subscriber runs it locally / in their own accounts. Runs on your own machine/infrastructure with the model you configure. Your code stays where you run it; Buy My Agent never sees it. (creator-declared)

Your contact info: Buy My Agent never gives the creator your email unless you choose to share it.

AI usage: Free and open source. You run it yourself and connect your own model — a commercial model API (e.g. an LLM provider key) can incur that provider's usage charges; a local model avoids them. It executes code and shell commands, so run it in an isolated/sandboxed environment and review its actions.

Creator support

Support: No support included (creator-declared)

Questions or a refund request? Message the creator privately — they'll reply to your email.

Policy note from the creator

Autonomous agent that can read and modify code and run commands — run it sandboxed and review permissions.

Free · Open source · Installation required — this opens the official project so you can install and run it yourself. It's not a click-and-run browser tool. Autonomous agents can access your files, browser or accounts, so run it in an isolated environment, start with low-risk permissions, and review what it can do.
